“ANCIENT SECRET” Introduction The pyramids of Egypt are known to be one of the most important ancient sites of the world. These pyramids are secrets of ancient time. The construction of these pyramids is still a question mark in the minds of the historians. Some people are of the view that this is not a human creation. At that time there was no major technological advancement. Archeologists and historians are confused that how the people can carry such a heavy weights at this height. But it is still believed that it is a human made construction and the great treasure of the history. The number of the pyramids is increasing with the passage of time. According to the latest findings provided till No. 2008, there are 118 pyramids which have been found. There are the pyramids with which the world is very familiar and which are famous around the globe. History These pyramids are the tombs of the rulers and of their queens of that time. The kings of that time were called Pharaoh. Initially the people who were considered to be having enough means were buried in the tombs. These tombs were made of stones and mud bricks. These tombs were called Mastaba. Mastaba is a kind of rectangular structure with flat roof. The pyramids are the developed form of Mastaba. This development was made by an architect called Imhotep. He planned the first stepped tomb for the pharaoh Djoser which is called Stepped Pyramid. He created a structure that composed of number of steps and the decreasing in size towards the height of the tomb. This design resulted in a stepped pyramid with the view that the soul of the deceased ruler would be able to easily travel to the heaven. Famous Pyramids As the construction of pyramids has been developed over the years in ancient history but all of them are not in their well persevered condition. There are about 118 pyramids have been found so far. But all are not important as they don’t get tourist attraction. Here we look at some of the most famous pyramids of the ancient time for which the Egypt is known around the world. Pyramid of Khufu The pyramid of Khufu, also called Great Pyramid is the only existing structure among the seven wonders of the ancient world. This is the tallest pyramid among the three other pyramids situated in the area. This is located in the area of Giza. This pyramid was constructed as tomb of King Khufu who ruled from 2589-2566 BC. The construction of this pyramid took around 14 to 20 years. This pyramid is 146.5 meters (480.6 ft) tall and was the tallest structure man mad structure at that time. length of each side of the pyramid was 230.4 meters (755.9 ft). There are about 2,300,000 blocks of stone used in the construction of the pyramid. The weight of the pyramid is about 5.9 million tones. This pyramid has significance that it has both, upward and downward stairways. Pyramid of Khafre This pyramid is the tomb of king Khafre also known Chefren who was the son of King Khufu. This is the second largest pyramid of the area. When you look at this pyramid it seems higher than the Great Pyramid but infact it is not. It is situated at a bedrock that’s why it looks high. The length of its base is 215.5 meters (706ft) and the height of the pyramid is 136.4 meters (448ft). Pyramid of Menkaure This is the smallest pyramid among the three in the Giza. This is the tomb of Pharaoh Menkaure. This pyramid was also constructed of limestone and granite as the other two pyramids of the area. This pyramid is about 61 m high and the base of it is 108.5 m.   Other Pyramids Slideshow of Egyptian Pyramids Other than above mentioned three pyramids there are number of small structures which are called Queen’s Pyramids in the Giza area.
